THREE MYSTERIES FOR STUDENTS
As a composer who also teaches piano to over a dozen young students, I've always loved the idea of writing music for children and non-professionals. Many of my favorite composers, such as Benjamin Britten and Bela Bartok, have been known for their complex musical innovations and language, whilst also composing simple yet effective music for young people. "Three Mysteries For Students" is written in piano four-hands, for two students (or a teacher-student pair) around level 4. The three pieces, "Spy Dance," "Mysterion," and "The Ruins" use melodic devices that a piano student will already be familiar with and which have pedagogical value. The pieces teach teamwork and active listening, as rhythmic and musical consistency is required from both players.
